Q: Do I need to have a child in "preschool" to attend MOPS?
A: MOPS is for mothers with infants through kindergarteners. We also have mothers attend who are expecting their first child. If you have a young child, this group is for you!
Q: When and where does Marvin MOPS meet?
A: You may click on our "Calendar" link for specific meeting dates and times. Generally, we meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church in downtown Tyler. Our meetings run from early September through mid May.
Q: What is the dress for a Marvin MOPS meeting?
A: Casual and Comfortable! For special meetings designated during the year (such as our End of Year Tea and Testimonies), we encourage our moms to "dress up," but it is whatever and however you feel best!
Q: Is there childcare available during a Marvin MOPS meeting?
A: YES! We have a children's program called MOPPETS. The MOPPETS program is designed to specifically care for the needs of children from birth to six years of age. The purpose of the ministry is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for each child while their mom participates in the MOPS program.
Q: How do I register for Marvin MOPS?
A: Registration forms are available at the Welcome Center in Marvin United Methodist Church or by e-mail marvinmops@yahoo.com.
Q: Is there a registration fee and/or other related costs for joining Marvin MOPS?
A: Each MOPS member pays at $25 registration fee to be registered with MOPS International. MOPS International is a tremendous resource for mothering; you may learn more through http://www.mops.org/. The remaining Fall dues are $40 (with children in MOPPETS) and $24 (without children in our care). In the Spring, there are dues of $50 (with children in MOPPETS) and $30 (without children in our care). We do not want dues to be a financial burden or hinder any mom from joining our group. We have scholarships available or payments may be spread out over a couple of months if necessary.
Q: What is a typical Marvin MOPS meeting?
A: A typical Marvin MOPS meeting includes an informal time of delicious food and fellowship with other moms on the same journey of motherhood. Subjects such as marriage, childrearing, relationships, cooking, homemaking, etc. are presented from a Biblical perspective. Sometimes a small, fun activity will be created by each mom to take home! At each Marvin MOPS meeting, there is plenty of time for deepening friendships and growing spiritually.
At times, sensitive and confidential matters may be discussed as we share life and motherhood experiences. We each take very seriously the absolute need for confidentiality when such issues are shared in the meeting. It is our hope that we create a safe environment for our mothers to freely express their joys and concerns.
Q: Help, I don't know anyone in Marvin MOPS! Who do I sit with?
A: No problem! Once you make contact with us, you will be introduced to your own personal contact, who will meet/greet you when you arrive. You will be assigned to a table with other moms, and your Marvin MOPS journey will begin!
